I grew up on a farm. We recycled before it was popular to do it. The compost pile is the perfect example of it. Anything organic would be tossed in it. Right now mine is full of corn. Lots of it. I froze close to 30 bags of it for the winter. Come January that corn will taste pretty amazing.
The compost will break down and at some point will become rich soil for something else to grow. With the seasons changing it is a wonderful time to think about how things change and evolve. Our lives are not always perfect. Sometimes we have those moments that we are like the compost pile.
